How many days are enough for Arunachal Pradesh depends on where you are going, because the state is 1,000 km wide. Five days is the minimum that works, seven is the standard trip to Tawang, and ten lets you add Ziro.
The short answer
Arunachal is 84,000 sq km and no single trip covers it. For a first visit, seven days from Guwahati to Tawang and back is the answer we give most often. If you have fewer than five, go somewhere else this time.

Why Arunachal needs more days than the map suggests
Distance is the wrong measure. Guwahati to Tawang is about 500 km and takes two days each way. Mountain hours are not plains hours, and a landslide can add half a day. Plan by overnight stops instead of kilometres, as our itinerary guide does.
Count your days correctly
- Start from the day you land in Guwahati, not the day you leave home.
- Subtract the travel days at each end. From Kolkata that is often a day each way, and more from Mumbai or Bangalore.
- Keep one slack day for weather. Fly out in the evening, not the morning.
- Give Tawang two nights at least, so you are not leaving the day after you arrive.
If you have only a long weekend
Three or four days will not work for Tawang. You can spend them in Guwahati and Shillong instead, or in Nameri, and come back for the mountains. The family tour guide lists what works on a short break.
How many days for Arunachal Pradesh in the wrong season?
In June to September add a day or two, because slides close roads. That is one reason we tell people to plan with the season first and the day count second.
