Arunachal Pradesh · where India's day begins

An Arunachal tour, planned from the other end of the road

Arunachal Pradesh is where India's sunrise arrives first — a state the size of Austria with fewer visitors in a year than Shimla sees in a month. We arrange the permits, the vehicles and the homestays so you only have to look out of the window.

Not sure which trip fits you?

Nine days' drive from the plains to 13,700 feet

Most people plan an Arunachal tour the same way: they find Tawang on a map, see that it is 500 km from Guwahati, and then discover that those 500 km take two full days, need an Inner Line Permit, and cross a pass that closes in bad weather.

That is the part we handle. Arunachal Tour Hub is a tour operator working out of Guwahati and Itanagar, running trips across the western circuit (Bhalukpong, Dirang, Tawang), the central valleys (Ziro, Daporijo, Aalo) and the far east (Pasighat, Mechuka, Roing, Namdapha). Our drivers are from the districts they drive in, our homestays are booked directly with the families who run them, and your permit is applied for before you leave home.

You do not need to know any of the logistics to start. Tell us how many days you have, which city you are flying from and what you want out of the trip — monasteries, a river valley, a festival, or just a week with no mobile signal — and we will send back a plan that actually fits into the time you have.

What is included in an Arunachal tour package

Every package we quote is land-only and covers the things that are difficult to arrange from outside the state:

  • Inner Line Permit (ILP) applied for and collected on your behalf, for every Indian traveller in your group.
  • Vehicle and driver for the full trip — usually an Innova Crysta, Scorpio or Bolero depending on the route and the season.
  • Accommodation in hotels, guest houses or village homestays, twin sharing, with breakfast and dinner.
  • Permits for restricted sections such as Bum La Pass and Madhuri Lake, arranged from the Tawang DC office.
  • A local guide where it adds something — the Apatani villages around Ziro and the monasteries in Tawang are far better with one.

Flights, entry tickets, lunches and anything personal sit outside the package price, so you always know what you are comparing. See a full cost breakdown.

Where people actually go

Arunachal has sixteen airports' worth of distance between its western and eastern ends. These are the places worth building a trip around.

Tawang

West · 10,000 ft

India's largest monastery, founded in the 1680s, sitting above a bowl of a valley. Reached over Sela Pass, now with a year-round tunnel under it.

Ziro Valley

Central · 5,500 ft

Apatani rice terraces and bamboo groves on a flat plateau. On UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list, and host to the Ziro Music Festival each September.

Mechuka

Shi-Yomi · 6,000 ft

A wide glacial valley near the Line of Actual Control, with a 400-year-old monastery and the Yargyap Chu running through the middle of it.

Dirang & Sangti

West Kameng · 5,000 ft

Hot springs, a stone-walled dzong, apple orchards and the valley where black-necked cranes winter. The easiest high country in the state to reach.

Pasighat & the Siang

East Siang · 500 ft

Arunachal's oldest town, where the Brahmaputra enters India as the Siang. Rafting, hanging bridges and the road onward to Aalo and Mechuka.

Namdapha

Changlang · 660–15,000 ft

The only park in the world with four big cats. A tough, wet, genuinely wild reserve for travellers who want a jungle rather than a safari.

Why book with a local operator

Arunachal is not a place where you can turn up and improvise. Permits are checked at district boundaries. Fuel stations are 120 km apart on some stretches. Hotel bookings made through national portals are frequently not honoured in small towns because the property never received them.

We are in the state. If a landslide closes the Bomdila road at four in the afternoon, someone on our team knows about it before you reach the diversion, and there is a room held for you on the right side of it.

What that means in practice

  • Permits done before you fly. We need a scan of your ID roughly ten days ahead. Nothing else.
  • Drivers who live on the route. Not a Guwahati taxi sent up for the week.
  • Honest altitude planning. We will not drive you from 500 ft to 13,700 ft in one day just to save a night's hotel bill.
  • Prices that hold. The quote you accept is the quote you pay, unless you change the trip.
  • Someone reachable. A single number for the whole trip, answered in Indian hours.

More about how we work

Common questions before booking

Do Indian citizens need a permit for Arunachal Pradesh?

Yes. Every Indian citizen who is not a resident of Arunachal needs an Inner Line Permit to enter the state. It is issued online or at the entry gate, costs a small fee per person, and is usually valid for 15 days. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit instead, which takes longer and must be applied for as a group of two or more. We arrange both. Full permit guide.

What is the best time for an Arunachal tour?

October to April for Tawang and the western circuit — clear skies, snow on Sela Pass from December, and rhododendrons in March and April. March to October for Ziro and the Siang valley. Avoid late June to early September everywhere: the monsoon brings landslides that can close a road for days. Month-by-month breakdown.

How many days do I need?

Five days is the minimum that is worth doing — enough for Dirang and Bomdila, or for Ziro. Tawang needs seven. If you want Tawang and Ziro in one trip, allow ten. Anything shorter turns into a driving holiday.

How much does an Arunachal tour cost?

Budget roughly ₹2,800–₹4,200 per person per day for land arrangements on a twin-sharing basis, plus flights. A seven-day Tawang trip from Guwahati typically lands between ₹22,000 and ₹29,000 per person depending on the hotels and the group size. See the detailed breakdown.

Is Arunachal Pradesh safe for tourists and solo women travellers?

Yes. Arunachal has one of the lowest crime rates against visitors in the country, and homestay culture is strong. The real risks are geographic rather than social: mountain roads, altitude and weather. Mobile coverage is patchy outside towns, so tell someone your route before you set off.

Can I do an Arunachal tour by bike or self-drive?

You can, and plenty of riders do the Tawang circuit. You still need the ILP, and vehicles registered outside Arunachal need their papers in order at every check gate. We support riders with permits, route planning, a backup vehicle and pre-booked rooms — ask us for a rider package.

Tell us what you want to see. We'll build the trip around it.

Send us your dates, the city you're flying from and how many people are travelling. You'll get a day-by-day plan and a firm price, usually within a few hours.

“Four of us started the trip to Arunachal Pradesh and came back as five. In an unknown land where we didn't know whom to trust, we found immaculate behaviour, a brilliant pick of homestays and a wonderful, extremely calm guide. Will definitely come back for more North East explorations.”
