Kaziranga sits directly on the road between Guwahati and the eastern hills, so adding it is not a detour. Two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos live there, in elephant grass that goes well over your head.
The contrast is the point. On day three you are in a jeep at dawn watching rhino in the mist. On day seven you are at 13,700 ft with snow on the road. Very few trips in India cover that much ground in a week.

Airport pickup and about five hours east. Kamakhya Temple en route if your flight lands early.

Kaziranga safaris
A dawn jeep safari in the Central range and a second in the Western range in the afternoon. Rhino, wild buffalo, swamp deer and elephant.

Kaziranga to Nameri
A short morning drive, with a tea estate stop near Tezpur. Afternoon rafting on the Jia Bhoroli or a birding walk.

Into Arunachal at Bhalukpong where permits are checked, then up through Tenga and Bomdila to Dirang.

About the Kaziranga safaris
The park is open roughly November to April and closes for the monsoon. Jeep safaris run in the Central (Kohora), Western (Bagori) and Eastern (Agoratoli) ranges. Central has the highest rhino density; Western is better for photography in morning light; Eastern is quieter and better for birds. Elephant safaris exist but we no longer book them.
Safari jeep and park entry fees are not included in the package price — they are paid at the gate and vary by range and season, typically ₹2,500–3,500 per jeep per safari shared between up to six people.
Why book an Assam and Arunachal tour together
An Assam and Arunachal tour lets you see Kaziranga’s one-horned rhinos on the way to the Himalayas rather than treating them as two trips. Kaziranga is on the road between Guwahati and the Arunachal border, so the safaris cost very little extra time. The Assam Arunachal tour package price includes the safaris and the permit.
Season note
This itinerary only works from November to April, because Kaziranga is closed during the monsoon and Sela is at its least reliable. November, February and March are the sweet spot.
