An Arunachal tour from Mumbai is simpler than most people expect. Fly to Guwahati (3 h 15 m direct) and the rest of the tour is road. Getting to Arunachal from Mumbai
Mumbai (BOM) to Guwahati (GAU) is about 3 hours 15 minutes non-stop, flown daily. Return fares booked six to eight weeks ahead generally sit between ₹13,000 and ₹20,000, rising sharply around Diwali and the New Year.
One-stop routings via Kolkata or Delhi are sometimes cheaper but add four to six hours and a connection risk. On the way out that matters, because a missed connection costs you the first day of the tour.
By train
Mumbai to Guwahati by train takes around 50 to 55 hours. It is not a practical option for a holiday of under two weeks, though the Mumbai–Guwahati express services do run and are used by travellers with time and a strong preference for rail.
How many days of leave you need
A 7-day Tawang tour needs 9 days of leave from Mumbai. The 13-day grand tour needs 15, and is better value.
The rule is simple: add one day at each end of the tour length if you are flying from outside the North East. Our tour lengths are quoted from Guwahati.

Coming from sea level
Mumbai is at sea level and Tawang is at 10,000 ft. That is a bigger jump than most Indian travellers make, and it is exactly why our itineraries put a night at Dirang in between. Do not let anyone sell you a shorter version that skips it.
Best months for Mumbai travellers
November to March. Mumbai's pleasant season coincides with Arunachal's best season, so you are not choosing between them. April is excellent for rhododendrons if you can travel outside school holidays.
Your permit
Every traveller from Mumbai who is not an Arunachal resident needs an Inner Line Permit. Send us a scan of your photo ID about ten days before travel and we apply for it on your behalf, at the government fee with no service charge added.
