An Arunachal tour from Delhi is simpler than most people expect. Fly to Guwahati (2 h 35 m direct) and the rest of the tour is road. Getting to Arunachal from Delhi
Delhi (DEL) to Guwahati (GAU) is about 2 hours 35 minutes non-stop, with several departures daily on IndiGo, Air India and Akasa. Return fares booked well ahead typically run ₹10,000 to ₹16,000.
Delhi also flies direct to Dibrugarh (DIB) in roughly 2 hours 45 minutes, which is the right choice for Mechuka, Pasighat, Roing and Namdapha. Being able to fly straight into the eastern gateway without routing through Guwahati saves a full day.
Take a morning departure. Landing in Guwahati by noon still allows an afternoon start towards Nameri.
By train
The Rajdhani and other express services run Delhi to Guwahati in roughly 28 to 32 hours. There is also a direct service to Naharlagun near Itanagar. Trains are a reasonable option if you are travelling as a large family and treating the journey as part of the holiday; otherwise the flight wins comfortably.
How many days of leave you need
A 7-day Tawang tour needs 8 to 9 days of leave from Delhi, depending on flight timings. The 13-day grand tour needs 15.
The rule is simple: add one day at each end of the tour length if you are flying from outside the North East. Our tour lengths are quoted from Guwahati.

Delhi is one of the few cities with a genuine choice here. If East Arunachal appeals, flying into Dibrugarh removes around 14 hours of road transfer.
Delhi travellers and Tawang in winter
Delhi winters are cold but not Tawang cold. Nights in Tawang in January fall well below freezing and some hotels have limited heating. Bring more than you think you need, and check with us which properties on your itinerary have proper room heating.
Foreign nationals based in Delhi
If you are a foreign national living in Delhi, you need a Protected Area Permit rather than an ILP, and must travel in a group of at least two. Delhi has an FRRO and the Arunachal Resident Commissioner's office, which can make the process easier than from most cities. Allow three to four weeks.
Your permit
Every traveller from Delhi who is not an Arunachal resident needs an Inner Line Permit. Send us a scan of your photo ID about ten days before travel and we apply for it on your behalf, at the government fee with no service charge added.
