Getting to Arunachal from Itanagar
Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi (HGI), about 25 km from Itanagar, is Arunachal's greenfield airport with services to Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi. Lilabari (IXI) at North Lakhimpur is the other nearby option and is closer to Ziro.
By train
Naharlagun railway station serves Itanagar directly, with connections to Guwahati, New Delhi and Kolkata. It is the most useful railhead inside Arunachal Pradesh.
How many days of leave you need
A Ziro trip from Itanagar runs 3 to 4 days. Tawang from Itanagar needs 8, because it means crossing back into Assam and out again.

Itanagar as a stopover
If you are passing through, Ita Fort, Ganga Lake, the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum and the Buddhist temple fill half a day comfortably. It is not a destination in itself, but it is a good place to break a long central-corridor drive.
